What is the Housing Market Doing Now in
Charleston?
Not quite as busy as last year, a record
year, but things are selling well and prices are holding
downtown.
Looking through multiple listing at sold
figures for the first half of last year on the Peninsular
south of the Crosstown, vs the first half of this year I found
the following:
Residences sold, including condos,
from $1 mill-$1,999,999
First half 2005 –
53
First half 2006 – 33,
with 21 others under sales contract = 54
Residences sold, including condos,
from $2 million and up
First half 2005 –
17
First half 2006 – 11, with 6
others under sales contract = 17
Residences sold, including condos,
from $500,000-$999,999
First half 2005 - 78
First half 2006 – 63, with 38
others under sales contract = 101
Residences sold, including condos,
from $250,000-$499,999
First half of 2005 – 116
First half of 2006 – 79, with
19 others under sales contract = 98
Wonder if you saw the report in the paper
this week saying that nationally sales of new homes went up
4.3% in May, 2006. Confounding whoever makes these fearless
predictions that sales of new homes would fall by 4% during
May 2006.
The stats shown here, and the last
statement, indicate that we the public should tune out the
media and talking heads’ forecasts and go with the facts.
Spoleto Festival USA was a big hit this
year again and revenue was up by just shy of $500,000 on
ticket sales alone. The price of gas not withstanding!
Spoleto was followed by the Boat Show in
mid June. There are many smaller events going on through the
summer months including musical performances downtown at the
Maritime Center every Friday evening. September will usher in
the Preservation Society’s famous house tours that go on for 4
or 5 weeks, and October will bring the fun of the Moja
Festival.
Thank you for coming to my web site.
Best regards,
