Margaret Petterson lives in Charleston, South
Carolina and has been painting for over thirty years. A native of Loris,
South Carolina, she moved to Charleston when she was eight years old.
Largely self-taught, Mrs. Petterson is now one of Charleston's most prominent
artists.
First choosing to paint in watercolors, she achieved
recognition for her graceful renditions of Charleston architecture and nature.
Since then, oils have replaced watercolors. In addition to her oil
paintings, Margaret also enjoys creating monotypes (one of a kind prints using
both oil based printing inks and watercolors). Her oils and monotypes
often dwell on natural themes: the movement of grasses on the waters edge,
the glow of a sunset across a lowcountry marsh, or the allure of a wild and
wooded path...
For Margaret and her husband, home is at 125 Church
Street in downtown Charleston. This is also where you will find the Margaret
Petterson Gallery. We hope that you will visit us there.
